How to transcribe a phone call on iPhone
iPhone can record calls, and the recordings land in the Notes app. Here is how to turn them into a proper transcript you can export, search and keep.
Record the call on iPhone
- During a call, tap the record button at the top left of the call screen (available on recent iOS versions in many regions).
- Both participants hear an announcement that the call is being recorded.
- When the call ends, the recording is saved to the Notes app in a “Call Recordings” folder.
Laws on recording calls differ by country and state. Always get the other person’s consent.
Save the audio and transcribe it
- Open the note with the call recording.
- Touch and hold the audio attachment, then choose Share (or Save Audio to Files).
- Choose Transcribe.ai, pick the language and tap Transcribe.
- Rename the speakers, for example “Me” and “Client”.

Other call sources
WhatsApp, Telegram and FaceTime calls can’t be recorded by iOS, but you can record a speakerphone call with a second device or a Mac. Calls recorded by apps such as TapeACall, Rev Call Recorder or your company’s phone system can be exported as audio and shared to Transcribe+ in the same way.
